South Florida’s Music Community Responds To The Haiti Crisis With The Haiti Mizik Relief Concert At Bayfront Park Saturday, January 23rd& Sunday, January 24th

100% of donations will go to The American Red Cross for relief of the earthquake-devastated country.

Miami, Florida (January 16, 2010) – A group of event producers, musicians, community leaders and activists have leveraged their network to quickly organize a 2-day Haiti Mizik Relief Concert at Bayfront Park’s Tina Hills Pavilion on Saturday, January 23rd from 4pm-10pm and Sunday, January 24th from 2pm-8pm . The 100% benefit concert will collect donations at the door, with all proceeds going directly to The American Red Cross for the immediate relief needs of Haiti. The benefit concert offers Miamians a chance to be together, listen to great music and raise desperately needed aid.

Miami’s community and the world have felt a deep sense of responsibility and urgency to donate their money, time and talent in the wake of the Haiti tragedy. Sadly, the concert lineup includes musicians who have been personally affected by the tragedy losing close relatives and waiting desperately to connect with loved ones in the devastated island nation.

The Haiti Mizik Relief Concert will musically mirror the diverse rhythms of Miami’s music community, featuring a plethora of Miami-based top Haitian, Latin Funk and World Music groups. Confirmed to appear are legendary Haitian Tuco Bouzi & Dixie Band performing along with Kapi & Yves Abel of Tabou Combo, Fredy of Top Vice, Jacky Ambroise of Strings, Ralph Conde from Nu-Look. Jan Sebon & Kazak International, Locos Por Juana, DJ Le Spam and The Spam All Stars, Rara Rock, Empress Addi & The Breeze, Jean P Jam, The Tap-Tap Band, Suenalo, Afrobeta, Conjunto Progreso, Jahfe, and Mr.DJ Pauer. Key leaders of both the Haitian and Miami communities are also scheduled to appear.

The Haiti Mizik Relief Concert is produced on a not for profit/volunteer basis by The Rhythm Foundation and La Juana Productions, working closely with a group of musicians, artists and producers. Community support has been instaneous and includes Gibson Guitars, which has generously donated an Epiphone guitar that will be raffled off at the event.Organizers are actively seeking other local and national sponsors who would like to donate towards the event’s mission.

A whole bunch of slot machines, buffet, and luxury where in the crowd you could spot big artists like Franco De Vita, Novalima, Draco Rosa, Oscar d’ Leon and so many more that I couldn’t identify but where followed by fans that seems to be more into their artists than going to work.

Then, I finally got to the place where the afterparty was supposed to happen, and what I had in mind as a party, was blown away by a 3000+ salon with a stage that looked more like a presidential event than an “afterparty”. Very professional production and sound. I got to setup and test everything. Lots of security points, badges, security and undercover.

I got assigned a person to take us backstage to the Latin Grammy event to see the pre-telecast. The stage, again, was amazing with huge led screens, lights and a backstage production bigger than the actual stage.

Later at night we went back for the televised Latin Grammy show filled with artists, producer, celebrities and industry people that seemed bored about the whole event.

Anyways… The opening was just spectacular with Laura Pausini singing and a bunch of dancers with an installation very cirque do soleil-like.

I didn’t get to stay until the end becase I had to get back to the afterparty ballroom.

One of my surprises, Calle 13 winning so many Grammy. Don’t get me wrong, I like the band a lot but it was way too much for a CD that is not getting airplay at all. Taking the spot of best alternative band or best urban band wasn’t fair. That’s just a personal opinion from Mr. Pauer.

Back to the party… El Gran Combo was backstage and I got to hang with this cool salsa rebel abuelitos. Abuelitos???yeah right! They are more active than any 20-year-old kid on stage!

I got to play a cool selection of world music, new cumbia and and Afro Peruvian beats.

There was an opening band that won an AXE contest to play at the afterparty. In my opinion, a great idea but bad managed because the band that won didn’t even had original songs on their set. They will remember this chance for ever and I really hope they take advantage of it in order to grow as a band.

El Gran Combo was just classic and pure fun where Gilberto Santarosa jumped to jam with them. People where dancing and having fun celebrating Latin Culture.

I got to play afterwards too to extend the party after 1am on what was a long day of activities.

Great vibe, amazing stage and a professional environment overal.
